FIRE OFFICER I

The purpose of this course is to specify, in terms of performance objectives, the minimum requirements for professional service as a Fire Officer. This course will assist the student with the steps to work toward Fire Officer Level I. It will meet the NFPA 1021 JPRs for Fire Officer I.
The student must have 3 years' experience in the Fire Service, be a Firefighter Level II, and be a Firefighter Level I or II instructor.
(Note: The NC Fire & Rescue Commission will certify Level I instructors from other states, but will not allow Level I instructors to become qualified until they meet the NC Fire and Rescue Commission's requirement for Level II instructor. Before the student will be allowed to be certified as a Fire Officer I, they will have to obtain Level II instructor status.)
Students must meet the Fire and Rescue Commission requirements for Fire Officer Level I and must have completed the Fire Officer I application and downloaded the Fire Officer I workbook from the Fire and Rescue Commission website. Go to www.ncdoi.com, click on Office of State Fire Marshal, Fire and Rescue Commission, Certification and Training, and then NC Fire Officer Certification. Please bring workbook to class.
Students are required to purchase Principals and Practice, International Association of Fire Chiefs, National Fire Protection Association and also the ISFSTA's Fire Department Company Officer, 3rd or 4th edition. The student should also have the study guides for each of these manuals. These may be purchased from Henry Sermons by calling 252-447-5660.
